The second floor comprises four vaults, with comparatively lower ceilings compose of steel joists with wooden floor boards. These rooms have a very different ambience and acoustics from the stone vaults below them. They have the same general floor plan as the those on the ground floor (about 30 yards long by 10 yards across), but with the third floor slicing through the central area. Huge dormer windows are shared with the second and third floors. The two central vaults on this floor stand directly above the vaults on the lower flowers, but there is one extra vault on either side. In addition, there is side room on the eastern end, with double-height ceiling but small floor area (about seven yards square). |
