About Scott Hawkins
Scott Hawkins, artist, designer, experimentalist, outsider, has pursued a career history in performance art, industrial design and design higher education since originally training as an Aerospace Engineer in the early 1980's. Currently working as an associate lecturer and course leader for the BA Hons. Furniture Design Course at Sheffield Hallam University his research interests include three-dimensional design and the development of sound and musical equipment for live performance, therapy and relaxation.
A founder member of Turnaround Arts and the Paramusic Ensemble, over the years his product designs have included a Waste Paper Coffin, some unusual audio-visual equipment, acoustic and electronic paramusical instruments and most recently Pinball Machines ~ 'Megalith' being the working title of a new electromechanical Pinball game he is developing, which is due for release in 2008.
Scott has regularly published articles about his work in academic journals and magazines and has organised conferences and symposiums on sound. He has regularly trialled his ideas in a public forum through workshops and live performance and more recently, through involvement in eco-design, environmental artwork and post-graduate study, he has developed an interest in landscape and the ancient built-environment. This is the subject of his presentations at Metageum 2007 and an ongoing inspiration for his creative practice.
