About Diana Bewley
Diana is a storyteller, musician and Shiatsu practitioner based in London.
Diana’s academic training and early career was in social anthropology. While undertaking fieldwork in Latin America, she became fascinated by the myths and stories of Amazonian indigenous groups, and explored the role of mythology in shaping culture and consciousness. She has been collecting, writing and performing myths and stories from around the world for ten years.
Diana’s recent storytelling work has focused on Meso-American history and mythology. She was commissioned by the British Museum during 2006 and 2007 to develop stories inspired by Aztec artefacts for performance in the Mexican Gallery.
Diana specialises in developing and performing original site- or event-specific stories that convey the essence of a theme in a very simple and direct way. She works with instruments (mainly flute and woodwind instruments), other musicians and sometimes puppets to enrich the atmosphere of her stories.
At Metageum '07
The stories will be told in the atmospheric reception hall of the Caraffa Stores in Vittoriosa. At the beginning and ending of each day of the conference, you will be treated to tales from one of the two visiting story-tellers of Metageum: Diana Bewley from 3rd to 6th November, and Tallyessin (Kevan Manwaring) from 7th to 11th November.
Diana will be performing a series of six interlinked stories that evoke the culture and consciousness of prehistoric Malta. These stories are designed to facilitate an internal journey from everyday 'reality' into a world of mysterious symbolism, altered consciousness and infinite possibilities.
