At Metageum '07: Archaeology in Atlantis

At the Metageum conference, Dr Mifsud will be reporting on his continuing researches into the prehistory of Malta, and in particular the evidence for the submerged parts of Malta and their possible connection with Plato's story of Atlantis.

About Dr Anton Mifsud

Anton Mifsud is a senior consultant in Paediatrics at St Luke's Hospital in Malta. His main interest outside medicine is Maltese prehistory. He has independently explored the many prehistoric sites in Malta, and took part in the Tas-Silg excavations for four seasons from 1996. He is the lead co-author of three books on Maltese prehistory - Malta: Echoes of Plato's Republic (2000,2001), Prehistoric Medicine in Malta (1999), Dossier Malta - evidence for the Magdalenian (1997) -, and a co-author of Hasan's Cave, Geology, Folklore and Antiquities (2000), and Prehistoric Medicine in Malt. He is a co-editor of Facets of Maltese Prehistory (1999), to which he also conttributed a chapter, and he contributed a substantive paper at the EMPTC conference (2003). Savona-Ventura C, Mifsud A. Prehistoric Medicine in Malta. Proprint: Malta, 1999, +104p.

The first edition of the book Malta: Echoes of Plato's Republic was published by the Prehistoric Society of Malta in July 2000, written and edited by Anton Mifsud, Simon Mifsud, Chris Agius Sultana, and Charles Savona Ventura. In its 86 x A4 pages, they lay out in some detail the evidential case for the astounding hypothesis that Malta maybe all that is left of Atlantis.

A second edition in September 2001 expanded on the research base. (Malta: Echoes of Plato's Republic is published by The Prehistoric Society of Malta, The Aton Penthouse, Olive Street, Lower Gardens, St Julians STJ 12. Copies by bought from bookshops in Malta, and can be purchased online from A.C.Aquilina & Co, 58d, Republic Street, Valletta, Malta, via their web site www.maltabook.com.)

Among the local press coverage was an article by Joseph Serracino, Malta's Atlantis Debate, now online at farshores.org.

At the present time, Dr Mifsud is working on a new book on Malta's place in ancient European civilisations.

The theme of the publication was documented by UK Channel Four for Graham Hancock's 50-minute television documentary Underworld: Flooded Kingdoms of the Ice Age, which was broadcast in February 2002. (See Diverse TV Production for details: www.diverse.tv.) Furthermore, the publication also featured significantly in Graham Hancock's book Underworld: Flooded Kingdoms of the Ice Age (published by Michael Joseph, January 2002). Italian archaeologists Adriano Forgione and Vittorio del Cesare documented the theme for their documentaries on RAI Tre, and for the Italian Journal of Archaeology, Hera. (The text of their article Malta: The Skulls of the Mother Goddess can be read online: www.bibliotecapleyades.net.

Information about Graham Hancock's book Underworld, along with updates, is available on his web site, www.grahamhancock.com/underworld. The 740-page book can be purchased online from Amazon UK or from Amazon US.
